Lord of the flies

LORD OF THE FLIES

->William Golding
“The Lord of The Flies” is a book about friendship and unity, about the power of leadership and team spirit.
“The Lord of The Flies” is the story of a few English boys who were on a trip. But their aircraft crashed on an island. Based on certain reasons, they got to the conclusion that the island was populated by a strange creature, which they named “the beast”.  But it was actually just a man, who was tied up in a parachute, that came during the night (dead, obviously, but driven by the wind) and landed on the top of a mountain.
They started fighting and they cast away their chosen leader, asking another boy to become their leader instead. The ex-leader`s best friend, Piggy, and another young boy, called Simon, were killed.
The author leaves us in suspense, only telling us that the ex-leader was chased by the helpers of the new “ruler”.
What I really enjoyed at this book is that the whole book is a continuous suspense. I never knew what was going to happen next. At the same time, it is an interesting, captivating book, in which William Golding sprinkled death and adventure.
On the other hand, I hoped that in the end I would find out what was going to happen to the old leader of the children. But it finished without telling me anything about this subject.
In this book, the boys became a structured and united team, because they knew that if they acted together, things would be easier in that wild and foreign island. From this point of view, unity dominates. On the other hand, their leader became too aggressive and wanted his ideas to be strictly followed. So we are allowed to say that he became too severe. But in the very beginning, he was very friendly and he was the one who taught them how to behave. But for the ex-boss, the boys wouldn`t have been a team, that worked as one single body.
This is a short revision of “The Lord of The Flies“, written by William Golding, which is a book I completely recommend.

                              By Veronica Roth

“Allegiant” is my favourite book. This book completes the Divergent trilogies. The book is written from the perspective of the main characters : Tris (Beatrice) and Four (Tobias) . Allegiant , a rebel group led by Cara and Johanna, planned to sent a group outside the city to find the truth. They finnaly found what they were looking for and they remained surprised. The truth was unexpected. The ending is sad because Tris dies. But she dies like a heroine. And we can learn that One choice can define you”.
Veronica is the best author because she can make us imagine all the story.Tris is the embodiment of courage and intelligence. She is my favorite character also. She taught me how to never give up.This book opened my eyes and taught me to love reading. The Good Soldier Švejk

The Good Soldier Švejk
by Jaroslav Hašek

The story begins with Josef Švejk, a former soldier declared an authentic idiot, discussing with his charwoman, Mrs Müller, about the assassination in Sarajevo. After telling the landlord, Palivec, things about Franz Josef, he is arrested by Bretschneider, a secret policeman. The gaol staff sends him to a lunatic asylum, but after some days Švejk gets thrown out. He stays at the police station for a while for behaving like an idiot and then goes back home. One day, Mrs Müller was pushing him in a bathchair because he had rheumatism and he could not move. When Švejk started to shout "To Belgrade! To Belgrade!", doctor Bautze saw him and sent him to a malingerer hospital. After being tortured, he was brought to the garrison gaol. The chaplain Otto Katz finds him and likes him and Švejk became his batman. Then, Katz loses him at card to senior lieutenant Lukáš. Their march battalion is moved to České Budějovice, but Švejk loses all the trains. He tries to go to Budějovice on foot but he is arrested and escorted to his regiment. They are transferred to Bruck an der Leitha. Švejk is arrested again, because he was involved in a street fight with some Hungarian people. He is promoted to company orderly. The unit had a long train journey towards Galicia and the Eastern Front. Close to the front line, Švejk is taken prisoner by his own side, because he dressed with a Russian uniform. He manages to rejoin his unit. The novel breaks off abruptly before Švejk has a chance to enter the trenches. Hašek died before he finished the novel.

The action happens in Austro-Hungarian Empire. The characters were inspired by real people. Otto Katz really lived and Hašek knew him.

The Book Thief

My soul book
The Book Thief by Markus Zusak

My soul book is probably the best book in the world:

The Book Thief By Markus Zusak.

The book is about Liesel Meminger, a girl from Germany that in the time of the war, discovers the pleasure of reading books, but can’t afford books, so she steals from everywhere she can.

The story is told by the Grim Reaper, that is very ocuppied for some years. The story begins like that:

HERE IS A SMALL FACT - YOU ARE GOING TO DIE

and continues with Liesel. Liesel was a girl from Germany that lived in a very poor family, so her mother decided to give her and her brother to adoption. They were in the train to München, a city very near to Molching, the place they had to go. Liesel’s brother was very sick and he died in the train. He was burried near the railway. A book falls out of the coat of a young apprentice grave digger, and he doesn't notice. Liesel steals her first book, but she doesn’t understand anything, because she can’t read.
Finally, she arives at her new house in Himmel street(Himmel means heaven). She meets her new parents: Hans and Rosa Hubermann. Rosa is very severe, but Hans is very loving. Also, she meets Rudy: a neighbour of Liesel.
At night, she shows Papa(Hans) her book and tells him that she wants to read it but she can’t. So Papa starts learning her how to read.
After some time, she finishes her first book. But this can’t be her only book.
So it’s the time for another stealed book. It’s the Führer’s day, so it’s the time to make a big fire and burn all the books. Everyone was throwing books in fire and Liesel did that to. When everyone left, she stealed a book from the fire.
And then Liesel continued to steal books from everywhere she could: from the Bürgermeister’s house and many other places.
Meanwhile, Max came to the Hubermann house. Max was a jew that Hans had to help, because Max’s father saved Hans in the first war. Max became friend with Liesel, and Liesel had to tell Max, that stayed in the basement, how the weather is. One day, they made a snowman in the basement. Because the snowman melted, Max nearly died because he sleeped in the cold water. After that, Max leaved the Hubermann house.
Many things happen, then the Himmel street is bombed. Liesel is the only survivor, because she sleeped in the basement. No one can describe how sad was Liesel when she saw her parents and her friends dead.
After some years, Liesel meets Max again. Then her life happily continues, and she dies at the age of ninety years.
The Grim Reaper met some times before she died with Liesel. Because of this, the Grim Reaper says to us at the end of the book:

“I’m haunted by humans.”

I love this book because it has a powerful message: the power of the words.
